FAQs about winter tours on the Lofoten Islands?

Are the suits very tight and uncomfortable?

If you’re sensitive to something tight, you might feel a bit uncomfortable at first. But don’t worry—that’s all part of staying warm and dry during your adventure! Our suits are regularly tested, serviced, and replaced to maintain the highest standards.

If you haven’t dived in a while, we offer a quick refresher! Our program is perfect for getting you back in the water and updating your skills before you dive into the Arctic underwater world. Whether you’ve been away from diving or just want to brush up, we’ll get you ready for an epic adventure!

Can I use my own diving equipment?

Feel free to bring your own dive gear, just make sure it’s serviced and ready for cold-water diving! We use DIN cylinders, but if you need a different setup, let us know in advance and we’ll make arrangements. Please note, Lofoten Diving is not responsible for any equipment you bring on the tour

Can my family join the boat?

We have a limited number of spots on the boat, but your family is welcome to join! The standard price for the tour starts at 1590 NOK per person.

Do I need prior experience with a dry suit to join the tour?

No dry suit experience is required to join our tours, especially in the summer when most of our guests choose wetsuits. However, if you’re visiting in the winter, we highly recommend taking a dry suit course. We offer PADI Dry Suit Courses daily in Lofoten, as well as refresher sessions to help you feel confident and ready to dive in!

Do you offer dry suit cours?

We offer the PADI Dry Suit Course daily, an all-day activity (7-8 hours) with two dives. Our experienced instructors will guide you through everything you need to know—how to maintain your dry suit, master buoyancy control, and follow proper safety procedures for dry suit diving. It’s the perfect way to level up your skills

Do you offer nitrox, trimix, or rebreather support?

Unfortunately, we don’t provide oxygen as standard. However, upon request, oxygen can be arranged for groups. We provide 12L single-valve DIN tanks filled with air, as well as 10L options. Our tanks are made of steel and filled with air up to 225 and 300 bar.

I do not have buddy – can I still dive?

Of course, you can! We’ll pair you with another diver or assign one of our instructors as your buddy. We keep group sizes small, with an instructor-to-client ratio of 1:4-5, ensuring a personalized experience. Plus, all dive programs are tailored to your skill level and certification, so you’ll always feel confident and supported underwater!

I forgot my certification card – can I still dive?

If you’re PADI or SSI certified, we can often verify your certification online. Just be sure to provide your full name (including your middle name) and birthdate exactly as they appear on your certification card before the tour.

I have a back problems will I need to carry the equipment?

The boat is located just 50-60 meters from our dive shop, and we head there fully equipped. If you have any difficulty with the walk or experience back problems, just let your guide know—we’re here to assist!

Is there a minimum dive certification required to join your scuba dive tours?

To join our scuba dive tours, you need a SCUBA diving certification (PADI Open Water Diver or an equivalent). New to scuba diving? No problem—our ‘First Time Diver’ program is perfect for beginners or those trying it for the first time!

What dry suit sizes do you have available?
  • We offer a range of dry suit sizes to ensure maximum comfort and safety for all participants. Our sizes are based on the most commonly available options on the market, so we encourage everyone to check the size chart carefully. Having the right fit is essential for keeping you warm, dry, and ready to fully enjoy your adventure

  • Min. Height: 150 cm (4’11”)
  • Min. Weight: 45 kg (99 lbs)
  • Max. Height: 210 cm (6’7″)
  • Max. Weight: 120 kg (265 lbs)
What equipment do you provide?

Our dive and snorkel equipment is carefully selected from the world’s leading manufacturers, specifically designed for cold water conditions to ensure your comfort and safety.

We provide undergarments and dry suits from BARE and URSUIT SOFTDURA, which are both flexible and comfortable to wear. The front zipper design allows you to put on the suit independently, while the Quick Neck system offers the flexibility to use different neck seal sizes for a perfect fit. Paired with Ursuit XTreme underwear, made from breathable material with double insulation, this setup ensures maximum thermal comfort even in the coldest waters.

For those who prefer wetsuits, we offer AQUALUNG 7mm full-length wetsuits combined with 5mm short suits for added warmth.
For freedivers, we provide the Frivannsliv Evo2 7mm wetsuit, which is perfect for year-round freediving adventures.

To further protect you from the cold, we include 7mm neoprene hoods and 7mm three-fingered neoprene wet gloves to keep your head and hands warm. Additionally: fins, a mask, and a snorkel, so you will have everything you need to fully enjoy your underwater exploration.

What type tanks do you use?

We use 12L and 10L steel tanks (with better buoyancy properties), filled to 225 or 300 bar. Both single-valve setups are available, all with DIN connections. If you have a YOKE regulator, no worries—just let us know, and we’ll provide a DIN-YOKE adapter
To ensure everything is ready for you, please let us know in advance what tank configuration you’ll need for your gear.

Will I feel cold in wet/ freediving suit?

We recommend wetsuits or freediving suits, especially during the summer and early autumn when the water temperature ranges from 10-15°C. Usually, no water will touch your skin, but if it does, your body will quickly warm it up. Keep in mind, diving and snorkeling in Lofoten’s waters aren’t like tropical destinations, but trust us—it’s all part of the adventure! It’s an epic, refreshing, and one-of-a-kind experience. That said, most people find the water perfectly comfortable with the right wetsuit!
